"I understand, we've had other orthodox Soldiers come through here." With this, SFC Martinez reminded me that the United States of America is still an amazing place.
I had to visit the section managing the flow of military personnel through Kyrgyzstan. With the Sabbath approaching, I was going to be delayed at least another day. Americans are, on the whole, people of faith. Actually many faiths, something I am reminded of daily in my work as a U.S. Army Chaplain. "One nation under G-d, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." Our ability to treat each other's religious views with dignity, understanding and respect keeps our nation strong, and is one reason we will continue to succeed even in these challenging times.
